Sight Unseen Excerpt Tour Week 2 #sightunseen

Have you picked up the SIGHT UNSEEN anthology? It features five intriguing, sexy, and surprising stories from five incredible authors – but you don’t know who wrote which story – YET. The reveal is coming soon, but in the mean time, we’re sharing the opening of each of the five stories, one per week! Check it out below and pick up your copy now!

About SIGHT UNSEEN

What stories would you tell if you could? Where would your mind take you, if you let it? Five of the top voices in romance dare you to explore the most distant corners of their imaginations as they test the limits of storytelling and break the boundaries of what even they thought possible, teasing and tormenting you shamelessly as they go.

But there’s a twist—the author of each story is a secret at the time of release. They’re each plumbing the depths of the human heart and mind in ways they’ve never attempted before. Taking you high, bringing you low, until you will be hardpressed to guess who wrote what. Can you tell? Want us to?

Too bad our lips are sealed . . . for now.

Lost That Feeling

Alma knew who she was, once—that is, before she erased her memory with a spell. Some, like the guards at the prison in which she’s held, say that she was a thief, a murderer.

Others say she was a hero. Like Driss, the man who rescues her. He claims to be a friend. He’s certainly handsome. And charming. And brave. In a word: perfect.

That’s the problem. If he’s perfect and she’s a hero, how did she end up in prison with a seven-year hole in her memory to begin with?

A Clear View of You

As a child, Kate had one dream: to escape her mother’s deluded hippie commune and live in the real world, where mature adults know that magic isn’t real. But the real world also has its downsides—like rent, student loans, and a cutthroat job market.

Happily, Kate is uniquely qualified for one in-demand position: psychic. Of course, she’s as fake as the rest of them, but nobody plays a fortune-teller as convincingly as a girl raised by a would-be witch. If only Kate’s newest client weren’t so perceptive . . . and attractive. If only crystal balls didn’t have the habit of lighting up in his presence.

Magic isn’t real, right? Kate is about to find out otherwise . . .

Free

Brad White would be an ordinary accountant with an unrequited crush except for two things: he works for a criminal motorcycle club, and he’s in love with the club president’s daughter. When she discovers the truth about the family business, Brad has to move beyond ordinary and put his life on the line to keep her safe.

Wren Masters, unlike everyone else in her graduating class, chose to stay in Fallow, Montana because, also unlike everyone else, she loves it. But when she finds out her father’s club is running drugs, her family and world crumble. She and Brad risk everything to uncover the truth . . . and begin a scorching affair.

As the conspiracy—and their feelings—deepen, Brad and Wren must choose between family and justice. And neither seems to include a future for them.

Chariot of Desire

CJ Crespo, drummer for the once wildly popular rock band Donjon, has always had a thing for frontman Donny Times. They spent the seventies getting high together, making music together, self-destructing together. But her qualms about ruining a creative partnership with sex kept them from ever hooking up. Now, Donny’s conversion to a bizarre fringe religion that won’t allow him to engage in—or even sing about—sex, drugs, or other “sins” threatens to tear Donjon apart.

As the band struggles to embrace a new decade and a new Donny, CJ must decide where she belongs: by Donny’s side, even if he can’t ever love her? Or out there making her own music, away from a man who gives and takes in equal measures?

The Heart is a Universe

On the remote planet of Pax Cara lies the greatest secret of the universe. Once every generation, the inhabitants must offer up an exceptional young person—the Chosen One—who sacrifices his or her own life for the sake of that secret, and the planet itself.

However, Vitalis, the current Chosen One, is desperate to free herself from the yoke of destiny. An unexpected invitation to an aristocratic summit seems to be the perfect opportunity for escape. But almost as soon as she arrives, the most eligible prince in existence proposes marriage.

Sparks fly, but Vitalis is wary. Eleian of Terra Illustrata can have any woman he wants. Why has he set his sight on Vitalis, who, unless she manages to flee, will die in sixteen days? Is he hiding an ulterior motive, one that could put everything in jeopardy—her plans, her life, and her heart?

Read the opening of A CLEAR VIEW OF YOU:

Monday afternoon at five o’clock was not a good time to pick up chips and a sports drink. The line to the cashier felt like the front of a war zone. The enemy—armed with shopping carts, crying children, and cell phones—was making a last-minute siege.

If I’d known, I would have just gone to the 7-11, Kate thought. Sometimes she wished she were a real psychic, instead of a fake one. Things would be so much easier.

She sighed and shifted her weight. The giant thermometer on the wall read ninety-one degrees—a record for late November. On the wall behind the checkout counter, a giant plastic turkey squawked Season’s Greetings! Overhead, a Christmas soundtrack was piping in through the sound system. Crappy speakers. Frank Sinatra sounded like Betty Boop. God, she was hungover.

Some stiff in a suit rolled his cart right over her toe. She yelped and turned to glare, but he was already elbowing his way through the next line, completely oblivious. She transferred her glare to her shoes. Birkenstocks. Symbol of all she loathed. Given the choice, she’d be in heels. But after her little argument with Luna last week, she knew better than to show up at work in civilian gear. Her boss’s patience was stretched thin. One more screw-up, and Kate would be back in the unemployment line—and worse yet, out on the street. She was already late on this month’s rent.

Is that why you blew thirty bucks at the bar last night?

She found herself chewing a nail. There went her manicure. Annoyed, she started to push her hands into the back pockets of her jeans—and realized too late she wasn’t wearing any. Dozens of little bells burst off her floor-length skirt, plummeting and jingling to the floor.

People turned to look. One middle-aged woman did a double take, then smirked.

Kate frowned. So what? She was dressed as a New Age hippie; no big deal. This was Berkeley, after all. Some people didn’t wear any clothes.

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes the next installment in the Saints of Denver series.

Riveted - cover

Everyone else in Dixie Carmichael’s life has made falling in love look easy, and now she is ready for her own chance at some of that happily ever after. Which means she’s done pining for the moody, silent former soldier who works with her at the bar that’s become her home away from home. Nope. No more chasing the hot as heck thundercloud of a man and no more waiting for Mr. Right to find her; she’s going hunting for him…even if she knows her heart is stuck on its stupid infatuation with Dash Churchill.

Denver has always been just a pit stop for Church on his way back to rural Mississippi. It was supposed to be simple, uneventful, but nothing could have prepared him for the bubbly, bouncy redhead with doe eyes and endless curves. Now he knows it’s time to get out of Denver, fast. For a man used to living in the shadows, the idea of spending his days in the sun is nothing short of terrifying.

When Dixie and Church find themselves caught up in a homecoming overshadowed with lies and danger, Dixie realizes that while falling in love is easy, loving takes a whole lot more work…especially when Mr. Right thinks he’s all wrong for you.

mitcham-coverAbout NEVER MINE by Megan Mitcham

From New York Times best-selling author Cristin Harber and USA Today best-selling author Megan Mitcham comes an exciting collaboration…

Jillian Cooper never wanted Callum, until a dream morphs him from her best friend’s husband to a singular nocturnal fantasy. Revolted by her own mind and loyal to a fault, she refuses to give the dream life. Still, it manages to make her awkward around her only family; Amery, Callum, and their two stunning daughters. As an orphan and an Explosive Ordinance Tech with the Navy, things have a way of crashing down around her. The world crumbling call came in the form of a single car, single fatality accident. Amery died.

While she spins in dizzying circles, the girls she’s loved since they were in their momma’s belly cling to her. When Callum’s strong arms fortify them and keep them all from falling apart, Jillian’s inner struggle reaches a breaking point. She does the only thing she can to honor her friend’s memory…run to the other side of the world to contract for Titan Group, an elite private securities force in need of an EOD.

Callum Bradfield adapts and overcomes. Even after the tragic death of his wife, his core values as a Navy SEAL march him forward…to safer waters. His gig as mission transport for Base Branch—the special operations force for the UN—isn’t as adrenaline laden, but he refuses to make his girls orphans.

Things are beginning to regroup when Jillian bales on his girls—and him—without a word. To ensure she’s safe, he hacks her personal information and follows the crumbs into Titan’s database. Crossing that line gets them both under a microscope in the middle of a desert, searching for the proof they need to show their innocence, while he tries to convince Jillian he’s more than just her dream.

“What’s your deal, Jilly?” Callum barked.

“My deal?” Her long loose hair fanned wide as she spun in a short angry tornado. “I thought your new gig was safer.”

“It is. I’m not leaving the girls, but I can’t lose my edge.”

She backed toward her door.

“You still didn’t answer my question,” he reminded.

“I don’t have a deal. I’m cold and tired.”

“You’re acting like you don’t know me—like we haven’t laughed the hours away over a bag of potato chips and a beer, like I haven’t carried your drunk ass in from my back lawn and held your hair back when you puked on my carpet, like—”

“I get it.” When she got angry, her upper lip curled into a sneer, revealing her little crooked tooth.

“Whether you’re acting weird as shit or not, I know you. I’ve never known you to shirk from confrontation. So nut up.” Again, maybe not the best choice of words. He hated how different things were now that Amery was gone. Things he’d said to her a thousand times before never seemed crude or inappropriate until today.

“You told the girls we’d go to the beach together?”

“I told them we’d see. Besides, what’s the big deal if we did? Amery wouldn’t want us to never go to the beach again because she’s dead.”

“Us? You and me? You don’t see anything wrong with that?”

“Just because Amery is gone, I’m not going to get weird on you, Jilly.” He hoped, at least.

She braced both hands on her hips and puffed out her chest. He’d said something wrong, and he didn’t have a damn clue what it was or how to make it better.

“The girls would love to see you more. They need stability. We need you in our lives like…”

“Like before?” One severe brown brow arched.

“Yeah.”

“Well, I need…” Her lips pressed together, rubbing off the last of her lipstick.

“What do you need, Jilly?”

Her anger fell away. Hollow eyes welled with sadness. “I need distance.”

“From the girls?”

“No.” Her head shook.

“From what, then?”

“From you.”

He knew the words were coming. They still hurt like a motherfucking knife to the guts. “Why?”

“Have you gone through Amery’s things?”

He should have kept his mouth shut. Jillian had gone through everything with the girls, boxed up what they wanted to keep, donated a lot, and boxed up things that he needed to go through. He hid the boxes at the back of the closet and went on about his life.

“I’ll text you with my new schedule. I’ve signed on with a private outfit for some trial runs.”

“You retired from the Navy?” he croaked.

“You’re not Navy anymore, Base Branch.” She used the name of his employer like a curse word.

“Yeah, but I told you before I did it.”

Jillian opened the door. “You wouldn’t have approved.” She climbed into the cab, slammed the door, and left him all alone with his dead wife and precious girls.

The List by Tawna Fenske

The List BT Ban

Today is our stop on the blog tour for The List by Tawna Fenske! Check it out and grab your copy today! And be sure to enter Tawna’s giveaway today!

the list

The List Synopsis:

As the millionaire owner of a chain of computer shops, Simon Traxel isn’t normally hands-on with mundane repairs. But when a fretful brunette shows up with her fried laptop and killer green eyes, he makes an exception. And as it turns out, she needs more hands-on help than Simon imagined.

Brainy soil scientist Cassie Michaels has spent her whole life feeling like a grungy tree trunk beside her delicate flower sisters. To make herself more interesting, Cassie invented stories about her wild sex life—stories she’s expected to retell in vivid detail at a bachelorette party. Cassie’s attempt to catalog her biggest whoppers goes awry when she spills wine on her laptop and lands in Simon’s shop with her sexy list frozen on the screen.

But Simon’s interest is piqued, and the two strike a deal to make Cassie’s make-believe sexploits a reality. From steamy public romps gone hilariously awry, to sexy antics with kitchen utensils, their quest to conquer The List is equal parts scorching hot and adorably awkward.

As they near the end of The List though, Cassie and Simon second guess their pledge to shake hands and say goodbye when they cross off the last item. But will Simon’s big secret make that the one fantasy that can never come true?

What I Thought:

This book was crazy hot. What I loved most about it was that both of the main characters were “nerds.”

And the meet cute between the two main characters was original and adorable. Cassie, the soil scientist (or dirt doctor) takes her frozen laptop to Simon, the tech whiz, whom she thinks only works at the computer store. The computer screen is frozen on something that shows Cassie’s creative and “kinky” side. This leads to Simon wanting to know more about Cassie.

Unfortunately, the two vow to keep their relationship only physical and they keep secrets from each other. Both of these things are a recipe for disaster.

This book was unique, and just as equally sexy. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

From New York Times best-selling author Cristin Harber and best-selling author Jessie Lane comes an exciting collaboration…

What happens when Titan and Ex Ops work together?

Terror has gripped the NYPD. A rogue sniper took out, not only the NYPD’s SWAT snipers and police chief, but several others. Now they must turn to the only person they can trust: Jared Westin and the Titan Group.

There’s only one problem. The Titan Operatives are currently tied up with their own missions. Unwilling to leave the NYPD hanging, Jared Westin cashes in a favor from Commander Jaxon Wall. Only, Jared doesn’t want to send Jaxon’s Ex Ops Team for the job; he wants to send in someone Jaxon has kept secret: his goddaughter, Billie Jean Beasely, one of the best snipers working for the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team, if only her male counterparts would let her prove it. The NYC mission could finally give her that chance.

Thing is, Jaxon Wall isn’t willing to send his goddaughter in alone. He wants to send one of his own men to help her. Chase Anderson.

Will Chase turn out to be yet another man who thinks Billie is less of a shot just because she’s a woman? Or will Billie finally meet a man who realizes she loves her bullets as much as bluebonnets?

B&B teaser 4

Read an Excerpt

Damn, I needed to get this case over with. The man didn’t know it yet, but as soon as we were done with this case, I was going to jump his bones.

“BB? Sweetheart? You all right over there?”

As Chase’s voice brought me out of my thoughts, I focused back on his face. “Yeah, why?”

The side of his mouth tipped up, making my girl parts clench.

“Because, I think for a second there, I wasn’t the only one having a conversation with myself.”

“I plead the fifth.” I was unwilling to admit I had to talk myself out of jumping across the table to kiss him. Frankly, this attraction was just plumb crazy? Who acted like this after just meeting someone?

Billie Jean the ho, apparently.

“I would love to know whatever you’re thinking, sweetheart,” he murmured in a sexual purr that curled my toes.

“Only if you tell me about the conversation you were having with yourself,” I volleyed back.

“Well, to be honest, I was talking to my dick.”

“What!” I shouted back, my eyes bugging out in shock. “You really are nuts, aren’t you?”

Chase let his head fall back, staring up at the ceiling with a look of despair. “I’ll be honest, if he keeps talking, I might have to admit myself in the nearest hospital.”

Unable to stop myself, I asked, “What the hell is he saying to you?”

Chase brought his face back down to look at me. “That you’re the best thing I’ve seen in my entire life. That I want to be inside you more than I want my next breath. Hell, he even says that you liking to shoot guns is the hottest thing he’s ever heard of, and we want to see you do it in a bikini.”

“That’s sort of sexist, you know?” I told him dryly.

Chase nodded. “Yeah, I know. Are you going to report me to your godfather?”

I pretended to think it over, just to make him sweat a bit. Then I finally gave him the truth when he nervously took a sip of his drink. “Nope, but only because I want to see you shoot my gun wearing nothing but a banana hammock.”

Soda sprayed everywhere in a fine mist as he choked.

She sipped some kind of flavored chai latte thing and dug into a blueberry muffin. “So, I googled Titan last night.”

“Yeah?” The combination of her soft voice and direct statement sounded sexy, though Locke knew the Titan website was anything but. It was slick and basic. All vital details went through Jared Westin, who seemed to know everything important going on in the world at any given time. “What’d ya think?”

She gave him a piercing look “I can’t tell exactly what you do. You said private investigation last night, but the site has a lot of stuff that…”

He studied her with a half smile, waiting to see how she would describe the glossed over version of Titan’s work.

“Well, it’s like out of an action movie. Or the news. Government stuff going on in the Middle East…security, risk management.” Her brows knit together. “I don’t really get it, but maybe I shouldn’t.”

“All you need to know is we protect those who need it, and lock up the ones who cause harm.”

She tilted her head. “Do you go all over the world doing this stuff?”

“Yup.”

“Like where?”

“Europe. Africa. Middle East.” He took a swig of his coffee.

“Middle East,” she repeated with a hushed, awed tone. “With terrorists?”

He nodded. She didn’t need to hear details.

“Jesus,” she murmured, barely audible. “And now you’re stuck babysitting me.”

He shook his head. “Not babysitting. Someone at your workplace was brutally murdered and Christ, Megan, you’re a witness. We’re not gonna let anything happen to you.”

“I-I really don’t think that person—or whatever it was—saw me.”

“Doesn’t matter. We don’t know, and until we do, we’ll keep you safe. And you’re helping us out. Trying to read those files.”

She frowned. “I don’t feel like I helped much.”

He reached across the table to cover her small hand with his. “Trust me, you did.” Hell, she kept her cool when others would have screamed or panicked. Instead, Megan had dug into Jerry’s files with an interest he could only watch in awe, rattling off cell-count-this and electrolyte-that.

Her eyes met his as a tiny smile tilted her lips. She didn’t pull her hand away, but twisted it in his. With her other fingers, she lightly traced his knuckles. “Do you flirt with all the girls you protect?”

“No.” That was the god’s honest truth. Better not to fuck the job, as his boss Rocco liked to warn. But something about this tiny, smart-as-hell woman got under his skin. Never mind that he’d known her less than a day.

Rescuedheart_finalAbout RESCUED HEART by Tarina Deaton

From New York Times best-selling author Cristin Harber and Tarina Deaton comes an exciting collaboration…

“Please, Jordan. It’s Emme.”

The last thing Major Jordan Grant expected was to be pulled off his unit’s deployment for a civilian mission. But when Titan calls, you answer — especially when the mission is to rescue the younger sister of your childhood best friend.

Moments away from death, NGO nurse Emme France could only pray for a miracle. The last person she expected to see in the smoke and dust was Jordan Grant, her teenage crush and litmus test of all the men she’d dated ever since.

Lying low at Titan’s exotic Abu Dhabi headquarters while the media furor around her rescue settles, Emme and Jordan explore a mutual attraction that is no longer young and innocent. Days in the desert paradise ignite desire and blur reality…until they return home, where Jordan rejoins his deployed unit and Emme is left alone to reevaluate her life and priorities.

Their passion was forged in the fires of combat. Will the home fires be enough to keep the burn alive?

“Emme, talk to me.”

“I can’t,” she whispered. What could she say? She couldn’t even explain it to herself.

“Do you want me to leave?”

She moved closer to him and shook her head. That was the last thing she wanted. Jordan made her feel safe. Protected. She knew he wouldn’t let anything happen to her. He’d literally fought for her already.

“You’re killing me. I don’t know what to do.” His hands ran up and down her back, trying to sooth her.

“Kiss me.” Oh, jeez. Did she really just say that? Is that what she wanted?

“Emme—”

“Please, Jordan.” She unburied her head. “I want you to kiss me. I need you to. I need to feel something other than all the crap I’m feeling now.”

A small furrow appeared between his brows.

“Please,” she whispered.

His head tilted and hovered a hairsbreadth away from her lips. She slid her hand behind his head, running her fingers over the soft stubble at the base of his neck and pulled him closer. His lips were firm but gentle.

She didn’t want gentle. She wanted to feel.

She wanted to feel him.

Opening her mouth, she touched her tongue to his lips.

His sharp inhale signaled his surprise and he groaned. “Emme.”

“More.” She pressed her mouth against his again. He reciprocated and his tongue laved her bottom lip before delving into her mouth to tangle with hers. She moaned and pressed closer, closing the distance between their bodies.

Now she realized why he’d kept some space between them. His erection nudged her lower stomach through their pajama bottoms. She threw her leg over his hips, eliciting a deep groan.

He ended their kiss, pressing his forehead against hers. His breathing was harsh. Tortured. “Emme, we have to stop.”

“No, we don’t.” She tried to pull him back to her mouth, but he resisted.

“You’ve just gone through a horrible experience. I know you’re feeling a lot of confusing emotions, but this isn’t the way to handle them.”

“You don’t understand. You might think you do, but you don’t. All my power was stripped from me. I was beaten and tossed around like I was trash. I need to feel something good. I need to have hands on me that don’t bring me pain.”

About Tarina Deaton

Tarina has spent her entire life in and around the military – first as a dependent and then as an enlisted Air Force member.

In 2015, a friend challenged her to complete NaNoWriMo. She dusted off one of the many stories she had started over the years, threw it in the trash, and started all over.

Her debut novel, Stitched Up Heart, released in September 2016. She draws heavily from her own military experience to create authentic characters and personal challenges.

Tarina is still active duty and a single mom of four-year-old twins. Her favorite hobby is sleep. She has delusions of retiring from the military and being a stay-at-home mom.
