Blurb:

When their business partner and friend Scott dies, brothers Austin and Ezra retreat from the world, to regroup, to write a book, to grieve. They return to Lightpointe, a tiny village where Scott grew up, and take up residence in an abandoned lighthouse.

While Austin is drawn into the eccentric seaside village they live on the outskirts of, Ezra loses himself in the pain of his best friend’s death. He wanders the beach and their lighthouse, stuck in his grief and the life he left behind, until a handsome stranger on the beach intrigues him. He strikes up a friendship with the eccentric Milo, a quiet distraction as his brother begins dating again.

Both Austin and Ezra are falling in love. But as Austin learns more about the village, it becomes clear that Milo is hiding things about his past.

And losing someone else might destroy Ezra.

The laundry was going.

She’d made enough cookie dough for several dozen cookies and baked a cake.

And she was slowly losing her mind.

Yeah, her usual happy place—baking in the kitchen—was so not cutting it right now. She’d used up most of the basic ingredients and knew if she kept going, she was going to have to get creative. Why the hell had she stopped Ben earlier? Right now, she could be naked and satisfied in that amazing bed of his and feeling completely at peace, and instead, her fingers were coated in cookie dough, and she was frustrated.

Good plan, Darce.

Okay, he’d scared her. Or maybe she’d scared herself. It was all just so intense. So everything. She felt consumed and hot and bothered, and her heart had felt so damn full that she’d almost had a panic attack over the whole thing.

What the hell was that about?

Sex! She was just supposed to want sex! It would be a great way to pass the time, get out of her slump, and move on! Why had emotions gone and gotten in the way? Or worse, her heart! She wasn’t that girl!

Or at least, she had thought she wasn’t that girl.

Rinsing her hands off, she walked over to the kitchen table and sat with a sigh. Wasn’t this exactly what she had been worrying about a week ago at Riley’s house? She wanted to feel like this. She wanted to be wanted like this.

She just didn’t think she wanted it with Ben.

And what was so wrong with Ben?

Um, the whole crush on Savannah thing, she reminded herself. But then instantly, she pushed that aside. He had a point last night, and so did Anna. Darcy knew she was flirty with some of her guy friends, and it had nothing to do with being attracted to them.

Right now, she needed to come to grips with why she was being so closed-minded about Ben.

He was sexy, attractive, considerate—he had saved her from being stranded in an airport in a storm—and when she wasn’t arguing with him and actually let herself relax and have a conversation with him, she found he was funny and someone she enjoyed talking to.

Looking around, she took in her surroundings and sighed. There was the whole he looked a little like a lumberjack and lived like a mountain man thing, but was that so bad? Probably not. She wasn’t looking for forever with him. Maybe she was looking for a hot and heavy fling.

And boy, did she want to get flung.

For hours at a time.

And after discovering how Ben kissed and how she responded to those kisses, Darcy had no doubt that getting flung by him would be incredibly satisfying.

So how did she get them to that place? How did she approach him when he came inside after shoveling and let him know she would be agreeable to…flinging?

“Ugh,” she murmured as the timer on the oven went off. Rising, she walked over to her baking station and started rolling the dough into little balls to place on the baking sheets. “I need to come up with a better metaphor than that.”

Rather than obsess on euphemisms, she simply let herself get into the groove of getting the cookies formed and onto their sheets. It was mindless work and the perfect distraction at the moment. Once she had everything ready to go, she began placing things into the oven and setting timers and starting her cleanup.

This was good.

This was what she needed.

Part of the problem was that she’d stayed up late reading sexy, snowed-in stories. It was feeding her imagination.

At least partly.

Ben being sexy as all get-out was feeding the rest.

And she was just going to have to wait and see what she could come up with where Ben was concerned.

The Sweet Dreams Inn off of Eternal Drive was the stuff of nightmares—at least for Ulrich. His plan had been to leave Happily Inc after he concluded his business with Violet Lund—thief and swindler—return to Los Angeles and catch a flight back to England. Only nothing had gone according to plan.

His meeting with the surprisingly attractive and very animated woman had left him feeling both awkward and confused. She had been able to produce a bill of sale for the buttons his grandmother had sent, and buttons were not what had been stolen from the house. Was she not the thief and if not her, then who?

Ulrich had driven to LA only to reschedule his flight and return to Happily Inc. The Sweet Dreams Inn had been the first hotel he’d seen, so he’d pulled in. Too late he’d discovered it was a themed hotel with each of the rooms representing something ridiculous. For reasons not completely clear to him, he’d agreed to a couple of nights in the Drive-In room, which was how he found himself with a mattress fit into a red, 1959 Cadillac convertible, a television the size of a movie screen and a sitting room decorated like a concession stand. Even he had to admit the car was beautiful—with big fins and white-walled tires. Still, it wasn’t where one expected to sleep. Regardless of the strange surroundings, the Wi-Fi was excellent and the kitchen delivered meals to his room.

Ulrich had spent nearly a day researching Violet Lund and antique buttons only to come to the conclusion that it was more than possible that she had been telling the truth. There was money to be made in the world of buttons. Even more troubling, it seemed Miss Violet Lund was nothing more than a very honest shopkeeper.

She had no criminal record, no trouble with the IRS, not even a ticket. He’d used several online sites to investigate her and she’d come back annoyingly normal and law abiding. How could he have been so wrong?

He was never wrong—he made it a point to be sure of things. He’d only been seriously fooled once in his life and that had been by his ex-wife Penelope. In that case, the deception had been deliberate—at least on her part. Thinking about that didn’t help him at all, and he mentally turned his back on his former wife. The bigger question was what to do about Violet. He’d slept on the information, then had woken up in the morning with no clear idea of what to do next.

After showering, he ordered breakfast and knew he had to come up with a plan—only he had no idea what it would be. He opened another file on his computer and reviewed the list of missing items provided to him by his housekeeper and his own investigation.

The trouble had started three months ago when Ulrich had ordered a complete inventory of the house, including the attics. The project had taken over a month and they’d discovered some truly wonderful pieces. But many things had also been missing.

The public rooms were closely monitored and protected, and the guests who stayed in the hotel wing didn’t have access to the private residence without an escort. The previous inventory had been conducted by his father, nearly five years before. Ulrich had no way of knowing what had been taken when. Or so he’d thought.

What I Thought:

Oh my goodness, this was SO good! I had not read the first book in this series (although now I will be) but it was pretty easy to follow this book without reading the first one.

The main couple of the book is Carol  and Matthias, although they don’t start off as a couple. There is also a minor storyline involving Carols sister Violet and HER love interest. I’m really not sure that I could choose a favorite couple out of the two 😂.

I have not really been in the mood for romance lately, but this fixed my mood right up and I will definitely be reading more from Susan Mallery.

Cover Reveal- Dignity by Jay Crownover

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Jay Crownover, comes the second standalone title in her The Breaking Point romantic suspense series, DIGNITY. Don’t miss the amazing cover below, and pre-order your copy today!

Cover designed By Hang Le

About DIGNITY:

Looks can be deceiving.

I knew that most people took one look at the ink and the impossibly big and strong body it covered and decided I was a brawler…a bruiser…a beast. However, I was hardwired to be a thinker, not a fighter.

I should have chosen to use my brain and talents to be one of the good guys, a hero, a man with dignity and worth.

I turned my back on dignity and sold my soul to the highest bidder, deciding to dance with the devil, instead.

I couldn’t figure out how to help myself, so there was zero chance I knew how to save someone else.

That someone else was Noe Lee. She was the unkempt, unruly thief who was just as smart as I was and twice as street savvy. She was annoyingly adorable beneath the dirt and grime, and she was in trouble. In way over her head, I told myself it wasn’t my job to keep her from drowning. In the Point, it was sink or swim, and I wasn’t the designated lifeguard on duty.

I shut the door in her face, but now she’s gone…vanished…disappeared without a trace. It took less than a second for me to realize that I wanted her back.

When a woman comes along that melts all the frozen, hard things you’re made of; you’ll do anything you have to, to bring her home.

What you see is not always what you get…and with a man like me, what you get is more than anyone ever bargained for.

About Caryn Larrinaga:

Caryn Larrinaga is a Basque-American mystery, horror, and urban fantasy writer living in Utah with her husband and cats. Her debut novel Donn’s Hill (March 2017, Immortal Works Press) garnered rave reviews from fans of the cozy mystery and paranormal genres, and her new urban fantasy Superhero Syndrome (September 2017, Twisted Tree Press) will be out this fall. Watching scary movies through split fingers terrified Caryn as a child, and those nightmares inspire her to write now. She lives in a 90-year-old house with a colorful history, and the creaking walls and narrow hallways send her running (never walking) up the stairs from her basement. Exploring her fears through writing makes Caryn feel a little less foolish for wanting a buddy to accompany her into the tool shed.

When her fingers aren’t glued to her laptop keyboard, Caryn also enjoys binge-watching Netflix with her husband, reading, playing video games, and filling up her phone’s flash memory with pictures of her cats. She loves music and plays the bass guitar. Caryn is an active member of the League of Utah Writers and the Utah Chapter of the Horror Writers Association.

An Excerpt from the Book

Take an inside look at Bound and Saved. Read this sizzling excerpt from the book.
The woman jerked upright with a look of such abject terror that Zach experienced a rare twinge of remorse before he recalled how far away from the mainland he’d already sailed. He recognized her right away as the new girl in the marina office, which added to his curiosity.
“I repeat, what’re you doing in my bed, on my yacht?”
“Oh!” Scrambling off the bed, she picked up a backpack, stuttering, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep. I was just so tired, and the rocking lulled me to sleep…Please, I’ll leave…I didn’t mess with anything…”
“That’d be damned difficult seeing as we’re already a few hundred miles from Miami. Unless,” he added with a derisive lift of one brow, “you’re up to rowing back to shore. There’s a chance, a slim one, you’d make it about the time I return at the end of the week.”
Scrubbing her eyes, she mumbled, “What?” before jerking her head up and gazing at him with a look of wonder filling her wide green eyes. “Are you telling me we’re miles away from Miami? In the middle of the Atlantic?”
Before Zach could confirm she had it correct, she jumped up on the bed, drawing his frown as she stood on tiptoes to press her face against the portal.
“Oh. My. God,” she breathed, her tone conveying awe, and if he wasn’t mistaken, a touch of excitement. As fast as she’d leapt on the bed, she hopped down and flew past him, the backpack clutched in one hand as he listened to her flying up to the first tier.
“Great, I’m not only stuck with a stowaway, but a lunatic as well,” he groused as he followed and found her standing on the port side deck, gazing in rapt pleasure across the ocean. Gone was the fear she woke with, likely brought on by his rude awakening. The sun picked up hints of red and blonde highlights in her unruly, poorly cut cap of short brown hair that seemed to suit her pixie face. With a squeal, she spun in a circle then stumbled to a stop when she faced him.
Flushing, those emerald green eyes didn’t shift away from him as she said with point-blank honesty, “I can’t explain.”
That was a new one, Zach mused with a touch of humor that didn’t last long. “Why?” he returned with just as much bluntness.
Her shoulders drooped and for a split second, so fast he may have imagined it, the fear on her face she’d awoken with returned. “I’m sorry, I just can’t. But, I promise I won’t get in your way-did you say you planned to be gone for several days?”
“Yes. Four days I was looking forward to spending alone, getting acquainted with my new purchase.” He swept out an arm to indicate the yacht.
“This boat looks big enough I can hole up somewhere and you’ll never know it-why’d you trade in your other boat? It was already one of the largest at the marina.”
God, he hoped her penchant for jumping from one topic to another wasn’t a habit. He might have to strangle her and toss her overboard if so. And why the hell did hearing her point out his extravagance produce a sense of guilt? He could afford a bigger yacht, so he bought one. It was that simple.
“It’s a yacht, not a boat. Look,” he stated, firming his tone and placing his fists on his hips. “It’s obvious I’m stuck with you, unless you annoy the hell out of me, in which case I’ll toss you overboard.”
Nonplussed, which again, surprised him, she quipped with a teasing smile, “Guess I better be good then. I’m hungry,” she announced as the loud rumble from her stomach made its displeasure known.
“Well, you know where the kitchen is. Don’t expect me to wait on you.” Pivoting, he took a few steps before tossing over his shoulder, “Pick one of the smaller staterooms to bunk in and stay out of mine.”
“Oh, heaven forbid the captain share his spacious sleeping quarters,” she taunted.
This time, the twinge of guilt prodded a curse from him, but his anger at this whole fucked-up excursion prevented him from turning around and shocking her with a small example of what he liked to do with women who shared his bed. He wondered how sassy she’d be if he yanked down those jeans and turned her ass a rosy red. Climbing the circular stairs leading to the top level, he decided to take out his frustration with his stowaway with a round of skeet shooting. Annihilating a dozen clay discs ought to help improve his mood.

We have traveled extensively throughout the states, Canada and just once overseas, but I much prefer being homebody. I worked for a while writing articles for a local magazine but soon found my interest in writing for myself peaking. My first book was strictly spanking erotica, but I slowly evolved to writing erotic romance with an emphasis on spanking. My favorite genre to read is Romantic Suspense.
